What colours can I wear for each discipline?
We’ve all been there, turned up for a competition wearing the wrong colour breeches. Don’t worry we are here to help shed the light on what colours you can and can’t wear for dressage, cross-country and show jumping.
Check the dress code at each event as local shows often have fewer rules while BE ,for example, has more guidelines and dress codes you need to follow.
Show Jumping
The British Show Jumping handbook states that breeches or jodhpurs must be white, pale yellow, beige, grey or fawn in colour. Black or navy breeches or jodhpurs are not allowed to be worn.
Cross Country
You are now allowed to wear ANY colour of breeches or jodhpurs in cross-country. Lots of people still stick to the traditional colours of white, cream, beige and canary yellow.
Dressage
The British Dressage handbook states that breeches or jodhpurs must be plain white, beige or canary yellow except when worn with official services uniform, when they may be of the uniform colour.
