General Rules & Conditions

Disclaimer of Liability

Save for death or personal injury caused by negligence, Eland Lodge Equestrian Ltd. or agents do not accept liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to riders, horses, owners, spectators, property, vehicles and their contents and accessories or any other person or property whatsoever, whether caused by their negligence, breach of contract or in any other way whatsoever.

The proprietors of Eland Lodge Equestrian Ltd. have taken all reasonable precautions to ensure the Health & Safety of everyone who uses the facilities. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take reasonable care to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and MUST OBEY any rules and instructions either written or spoken.

Safety Wear

  • Riders must be wearing suitable equestrian clothing, including suitable footwear, whilst using the facility.

  • A correctly fitted hat conforming to current safety standards must be worn and secured correctly at all times whilst mounted.

  • Any wearable camera or video recording device, such as hat and body camera, is not permitted to be worn whilst riding on the Eland Lodge premises.

Additional Rules

  • The facility does, from time to time, have heavy machinery working on/nearby the course. It is your responsibility to avoid riding too close to such machinery.

  • All riders/trainers and accompanying people must behave responsibly and show due care and consideration to other users of the facilities.

  • Dogs are welcome to the site but must be kept on a lead and under control at all times. All mess must be cleared up.

  • All riders under the age of 16 years must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult whilst using the facilities.

Inappropriate Behaviour

Eland Lodge reserves the right to request that riders/any person using the facilities leave in circumstances where in the opinion of Eland Lodge or its managers, a person is creating a dangerous situation, riding in a dangerous manner and/or where a person is mistreating a horse or acting irresponsibly. Where a person is asked to leave, they must refrain from jumping any further jumps and immediately return to their mode of transport and remove the horse and themselves from the premises.

Insurance

We recommend that any horse using the facilities is insured for third party liability, injury, veterinary fees and death. It is also recommended that all riders hold personal accident insurance. As a rider, it is up to you to ascertain that your instructor/trainer/employer/owner holds the appropriate insurances.

The Course & Facilities

Our XC course includes a selection of jumps and obstacles at a variety of heights, technicality and difficulty. As a rider, it is your decision to jump, and you must only jump within the limits of yours/your horse's ability.

As the rider, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have inspected the facilities and that you are happy that the ground conditions, and construction/maintenance of the obstacles and facilities are safe and suitable. Eland Lodge is not responsible for damage caused by other users & animals.

Any accidental damage to fences, ground or facilities, and any noticed hazards must be reported to Eland Lodge. These will not be charged for.

Horses can be dangerous and unpredictable; riding is a risk sport. Everyone using the facility does so at their own risk and Eland Lodge will not be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss howsoever caused.

Flagged Fences & Roped Areas

For the safety of yourself and others:

  • Roped off areas may not be ridden through, nor may the rope be moved/removed.

  • Jumps with Crossed Flags or a Single Flag placed over them are not to be jumped, and flags are not to be moved/removed.

XC & Arena Eventing Safety Wear

  • A correctly fitted peakless hat conforming to current British Eventing safety standards must be worn and secured correctly at all times whilst mounted.

  • A correctly fitted Body Protector conforming to current British Eventing Safety Standards (BETA Level 3 2018 label) must be worn at all times on the XC course and warm up. If an Air Jacket is worn, this must be worn over a standard body protector.

XC Additional Rules

  • You must give way to members of the public using the public footpaths that cross the course. Cross Country Course Hire is not exclusive. All riders/trainers and accompanying people must behave responsibly and show due care and consideration to other users of the facilities.
