Get Ready to Ride with Confidence: New Horse Riding Body Protector Standards for 2024!

by Shop Staff 03 Nov 2023 0 Comments

Calling all equestrians! Get ready to check your body protectors as from January 1st 2024, the safety standards are changing. As we all know, safety is paramount when it comes to horse riding. But what exactly are the new standards? How do they compare to the previous ones? And what does that mean for competitions? Find out all the answers below and how you can get a free safety wear fitting should you need it!

The importance of body protectors in horse riding

Horse riding can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience, but it's crucial to always prioritise safety. That's where body protectors come in. They offer vital protection to our chest, back, and ribs, minimising the impact of falls and accidents. Riders can now have more confidence, knowing that their body protectors will meet the highest safety requirements.

Introducing the new body protector standards for 2024

As of January 2024, the BETA 2009 tagged body protectors will no longer be competition legal. You can continue to wear your body protector at home and for leisure riding.

In order to compete, you will need Beta level 3 2018. (See photos below to see what standard you are looking for).

These updated standards have been carefully researched and tested to ensure maximum safety and optimal protection for riders of all levels.

What the new standards mean for riders?

What does all of this mean for you as a rider? Well, all it means is you’ll have to check the standard of your current body protector. If the label says 2009 or older, this will no longer be competition legal and cannot be worn for BE, Pony Club, and British Riding Club. You will still be able to use your body protector at home and for leisure riding.

If you’re not sure if your body protector meets the new standards, we are always happy to help! You can send us a photo on social media or give us a call.

Where to find the latest body protectors that meet the new standards

Visit us in-store for a free hat, body protector or air jacket fitting from our trained knowledgeable staff. We are always happy to help, just remember…

If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t do its job! Always get fitted for safety wear by a professional. It’s incredibly important it fits you correctly.

Make sure to look for reputable brands that abide by the new standards. Some popular body protector choices include trusted brands such as Racesafe, Champion and Airowear by Charles Owen. These companies have a long-standing reputation for producing high-quality protective gear.

Remember, when it comes to safety, it's important to prioritise quality over price. Investing in a certified body protector will ensure you have the best possible protection while riding. It’s also incredibly important to not buy second hand safety wear. You can’t see things like, hidden damage, whether it’s been stored correctly, how old it is or if the item has been in an accident. So, get ready to ride confidently and start searching for your new body protector today!
