Horse Boots for Riding & Training

Some horses need a bit of extra protection for general riding, training or schooling. Often, brushing boots are the first choice to help protect a horse from any brushing injuries or small knocks and bumps whilst being ridden. Exercise and polo bandages are also a popular choice. These protective boots and bandages come in a wide range of colours so you can match them to your saddle pads and outfits.

For those of you who enjoy hacking or do roadwork, knee boots are an essential piece of kit to keep your horse protected against any slips on the road.

Horse Boots for Jumping

For those of you who jump in training or competition on a regular basis, tendon boots and fetlock boots are a must. As the name suggests, tendon boots protect the tendon on your horse’s front legs from a strike from their hind legs, whilst fetlock boots protect the horse’s hind legs from brushing, strike injuries, or knocks from the obstacle. For competitions your horse’s boots will need to comply with the latest British Showjumping rules.

Horse Boots for Eventing

Overreach boots are often worn on the cross country course to prevent a keen horse from overreach injuries or pulling shoes off. There’s lots of different types of overreach boots to choose from, from basic rubber bell boots, to non-twist overreach boots, to those with reinforced strike protections, in a choice of colours to cuit your cross country gear.

It’s important to make sure your horse’s legs are protected out on the cross country course, whether that be from strikes from their own legs, or knocks from impact with obstacles. One of the best ways to ensure complete protection is to invest in a pair of specifically designed event boots. This type of boot has been designed with the challenges of cross country in mind, and include features such as quick dry, air cooling, 360 degree impact protection and strike protection. Tendon and fetlock boots can also be worn for the showjumping and cross country phases of eventing competitions.

Horse Boots for in the stable

Stable or polo bandages, along with bandage pads, are often used on horses that spend time in the stable, particularly during the winter months. These can be used to keep the horse’s legs warm, prevent injury, and to help prevent legs from filling.

Therapy Boots are often used to treat injury, prevent injury, or help to warm up or cool down your horse in the stable. There’s lots of options available, such as the Horseware Ice vibe, magnetic hock boots, infra-red boots, or bioceramic theraby as an example.

Horse Boots for in the field

There are a number of different boots which can be used in the field for various reasons. Overreach boots are a popular choice for turned out horses that are in work, these boots can help prevent an exuberant horse from pulling off its shoes or suffering an overreach injury.

In the summer months, fly boots can be used on horses such as those with sweet itch, that suffer when bitten by flies. These boots also often offer UV protection, so can be used on photosensitive horses to protect their legs from the sun’s harmful rays. In winter many people use turnout boots to keep the mud at bay, and to help prevent skin ailments like mud fever.

If a horse has an abscess or hoof injury, but still needs time in the field a medical hoof boot is an option. These boots fit over the hoof and help to prevent dirt ingress and keep poultices or bandages in place.

Horse Boots for Travelling

Travel Boots or stable bandages with pads are an essential when travelling your horse ina trailer or lorry. These boots help to prevent your horse injuring themselves on the trailer or from knocking themselves if they lose their balance. Another favourite bit of kit for travelling is a tail bandage, tail guard or tail bags – designed to protect the tail from rubs and also keep it clean and ready for competition.
